We are celebrating our updated #1Billion4BlackGirls website and hope you find it as beautiful, informative, and easy to navigate as we do. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their talent, insights and labor, including the folks you see above (from one of our many virtual meetings!) as well as our G4GC team members, and of course the Stacy Nguyen Creative team!

So much has happened since our Open Letter was published in Essence Magazine on September 15, 2020, which marked the creation of the #1Billion4BlackGirls campaign as well as the foundation of Black Girl Freedom Fund (BGFF), one of four funds at G4GC

The letter was a clear statement that “Black girls in the United States are in crisis” and that “all social justice efforts benefit when we place value in Black girls’ and women’s lives and leadership.” The eight phenomenal co-founders called on philanthropy to invest $1 billion in the brilliance and leadership of Black girls and gender-expansive youth within the next decade.

This website will continue to capture the updates, opportunities, and videos around the #1Billion4BlackGirls movement, as well as Black Girl Freedom Fund events and updates.

And it’s ready just in time, as we continue our plans for our fourth Black Girl Freedom Week February 12-18, 2024, the theme for this year is “A Future of Justice and Democracy,” and it will include exciting speakers, performances, and thought-provoking conversations that center the wisdom and leadership of Black girls and gender-expansive youth that you’ve come to expect. Registrations will open soon, with chances to win fun prizes!
